Roles and Responsibilities

WWF India is looking for talented, creative and passionate professionals with diverse communication skills to help spread the message of conservation. We aim to bring together a team of communication professionals who will work collaboratively with each other and with our technical leads in the many areas that WWF India works on, including wildlife conservation (terrestrial, freshwater and marine), rivers & wetlands, sustainable business, climate change, community engagement & local governance, sustainable agriculture & fisheries and much more. This programme communications team will also work with other communicators within the organisation on social media, digital communications and more. Our aim is to synergise the many aspects of communications and outreach to create powerful and cohesive messaging for a diverse set of audiences. All these roles are at the mid-to-senior level and there will be potential to recruit junior supporting talent in addition as required.

Job Profile:

Strategic Communications & Advocacy

  • Provide leadership in designing, developing and implementing a communications and advocacy strategy across the conservation programmes
  • Act as a focal point for communications, outreach, and advocacy related work within the conservation programmes team
  • Lead the design of global, national and local campaigns on specific issues identified by the programme team
  • Work with programme teams to identify advocacy opportunities and develop policy/advocacy briefs and other materials
  • Develop a media engagement strategy and work with the central communications team to implement this
  • Coordinate with the programme teams to ensure regular external communication through a Programme Newsletter
  • Act as the primary point of contact with the central communications team on media engagement, social media, website, etc.

Creative Writing & Editing

  • Lead on the delivery of key messages in an effective manner through different communication channels
  • Work with the technical teams on reports, articles, stories, case studies, podcasts, documentaries and other forms of creative storytelling for various audiences
  • Write press releases and media briefs and work with central communications on dissemination
  • Work with programme teams to develop regular content for external facing Programme Newsletter
  • Liaise with the global WWF network and donors to ensure timely ‘feed’ of stories and increasing visibility of WWF India
Design & Outreach

  • Take primary oversight for all design-related outputs of the programme teams, ensuring quality and timely delivery of designed outputs
  • Assist the programme teams in designing content for events such as conferences, outreach activities, policy sessions, field-based events
  • Drive campaigns by creating visual identities, communication & collaterals to inspire external audiences.
  • Design publications for connecting our work with external or internal audiences
  • Lead and deliver the design dimensions of WWF India Program publications
  • Explore and co-ordinate with external design consultants where needed.

Web and Data Management

  • Take primary responsibility for ensuring that programmatic web content is accurate, engaging, topical and relevant at all times.
  • Work with central communications to ensure that the website is regularly updated and accessible.
  • Create, collate & manage visual (& audio-visual) databank for facilitating and improving the quality of communication

Desired skills and experience
  • A minimum of 5-8 years of experience doing relevant communications-related work with an environment or social sector organisation
  • Graduate or Post Graduate degree in Arts, Digital Media or Marketing Communications
  • Excellent communication skills in English and at least one regional language
  • Proven ability to work within a team structure while also showing innovation and self-motivation
  • Ability to coordinate within and across multi-disciplinary teams based in multiple locations
  • A strong interest in knowledge of environmental and sustainable development issues in India
