Roles and Responsibilities

WWF-India, one of the largest conservation organisations, engaged in wildlife and nature conservation in the country, invites applications from candidates with an inherent sensitivity towards the conservation of nature, for the position of Senior Education Officer for Chennai location.

Location: Chennai

Job Profile:

The incumbent has to ensure effective implementation of Ek Prithvi, One Earth One Home and Mission Eeyarkai programmes and other environment education programmes with schools in Tamil Nadu.

The Responsibilities include:

  • Initiate Ek Prithvi & Mission Eeyarkai environment education programmes for schools of Tamil Nadu.
  • Register schools across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to the Wild Wisdom Quiz competition held every year all across India
  • Register schools to the One Planet Academy online digital resources portal of WWF-India.
  • Conduct Eco-trails for the general public as well as for the educational institutions.
  • Conduct various environment education and awareness activities (teachers training, students training, training government officials and non-formal target groups) in the State.
  • Strengthen Volunteer programmes viz. ECHO, Dragonfly Festival, Magical Mangroves, Coastwise etc.
  • Designing and production of IEC materials such as posters, pamphlets, stickers, guides, on nature and environment should be done in consultation with experts. \
  • Observe at least 3 major environmentally significant days, mobilize support for Earth Hour and Give Up Campaign.
  • Exploring new avenues/partnerships for undertaking innovative and long-term environmental education activities / projects.
  • Outreach and Communicate on wild wisdom quiz, volunteer program (ECHO, Tide Turner) among various schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu
  • Prepare monthly reports on education activities and send to the State Coordinator.
  • Engage with students, teachers, principals for effective implementation of the program
  • Ensure regular visits to schools to monitor the program
  • Organize capacity building workshops and other events for teachers, students.
  • Network and coordinate with the School Education Department, Tamil Nadu

Education, Experience and Abilities:

  • Candidates should have a Master’s degree in Life Sciences / Wildlife Biology / Ecology / Environmental Education.
  • The applicant should have a minimum experience of 2 years working preferably in the education domain with experience in project management and assessing impact.
  • Fluency in English and the local language, i.e. Tamil
  • Good writing skills are a must
  • Capability to prepare training modules and generate resource materials,
  • Willingness to travel extensively
  • Understanding of the education system
  • Ability to self-manage, prioritise and work under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work with team and multiple stakeholders
